Mfarhanonline Social Media News: Here’s something you don’t read every day: From the Googleverse comes a new iPhone app — that’s right, an iPhone app with no Android variant in sight. Granted, this app doesn’t come from Google per se . It was developed and launched by Slide, which Google bought in August 2010 for $182 million. Slide is perhaps best known for its Super Poke line of cutesy virtual pet games. At the time of the acquisition, Google said it was planning to work with the Slide team “to develop open, transparent and interesting (and fun!) ways to allow our users to take full advantage of how technology can bring them closer to friends and family and provide useful information just for them.” While “iPhone app” may not be the first thing that comes to mind when Google starts talking about “open and transparent” apps, we’re not completely sure about this application’s provenance. After all, if might have been under development before the acquisition; we just don’t have a lot of information on where it’s coming from or why. The new app is called Disco iTunes link. You can also visit the app’s bare-bones website if you’re so inclined. The app apparently allows users to create as many text messaging groups as they like and send messages free of charge.
