Probe begins into hosing down of BB’s assassination site

GEO 436 ISLAMABAD: A 3-member court of inquiry constituted by the Prime Minister Syed Yousuf Raza Gilani to investigate into who had ordered for washing crime scene of Benazir Bhutto assassination started functioning formally on Monday. Official sources told media that on the first day the committee gave final shape to its terms of reference with regard to the inquiry. Chairman Cabinet Secretary Abdul Rauf Chaudhry presided over the meeting. Vice Chief of Staff Maj Gen Sajjad Ghani and additional chief secretary interior Khyber Pakhtoonkhwa Fayyaz Tooro also attended the meeting. Committee met in cabinet division. The committee discussed the matters relating to its mandate and exchanged views in details on the modus operandi to be adopted for holding inquiry in respect of the assignment entrusted to it. Sources informed that the then DG MI Maj Gen Nadeem Ejaz would be summoned in a day or two who at present holding the post of log area commander in Gujranwala. Sources further informed that the committee would review UN Commission report but recording the statement of the then DG MI Maj Gen Nadeem Ejaz was its first priority and formal notice would be served on him in this regard. Notices will also be issued to other respective officers. Maj Gen Nadeem Ejaz was still in Gujranwala and he had not recorded his statement before the committee on Monday. The whole proceedings of the committee would be in camera and its recommendations would be sent to the prime minister directly within seven days. The appointment of Maj Gen Sajjad Ghanni has been made in board of inquiry by taking army chief Gen Ashfaq Parvez Kiayani into confidence. The committee would ascertain information from the other persons who were involved in hosing down assassination site The committee would work independently and its venues of meeting would be kept secret.
