Geo436.com blog: Commonwealth Games bridge collapses, raises concerns

Media Report New Delhi, India — A pedestrian bridge under construction for next month’s Commonwealth Games here collapsed Tuesday, officials said, adding to concerns raised about India’s preparedness for the international sporting event.
At least 24 people were injured, three critically, said New Delhi police spokesman Rajan Bhagat.
The bridge near Jawarharlal Nehru Stadium came down while workers were laying a concrete slab, said Rakesh Mishra, engineer-in-chief for New Delhi’s Public Works Department.
Designed as a pathway from a parking area to the stadium, the bridge was scheduled for completion this week. The games begin October 3.
“We are inquiring into it,” said Mishra about the cause of the collapse. “It could be faulty execution or a fault in the design.”
The games, hosted for the first time by the Commonwealth’s most populous nation, have already been troubled by delays in construction projects and allegations of corruption.
Also Tuesday, Mike Hooper, chief executive officer of the Commonwealth Games Federation, complained of the conditions inside the rooms where the athletes are expected to live.
“Filth, excrement — it really is disgusting in parts. And it really requires a professional, deep clean throughout the entire complex,” he said.
Monsoon rains have similarly compounded the woes, with a spike in cases of dengue fever, water-logged streets and massive traffic snarls.
And this week, security concerns heightened after a shooting attack Sunday on a bus near a New Delhi mosque injured two Taiwanese tourists. Police, however, downplayed the assault as “local mischief,” insisting the city is safe for visitors.

Atlanta Highway Plane Landing Blocks 4 Lanes Of Traffic As Rush Hour Begins SKYFOX Mansfield plane.

The pilot of a light aircraft had a lucky escape when he made an emergency landing on a busy highway near Atlanta in the US last night. The plane was forced down on an interstate highway, when it ran into mechanical problems. Amazingly, there were no collisions or injuries although apparently, it did cause a few traffic jams.

Authorities say a small plane made a smooth emergency landing without hitting any cars on a busy stretch of Interstate 85 in northeast Atlanta just as the city’s evening rush hour began.

Television shots showed traffic snarled for miles as the Piper Saratoga blocked at least four lanes of traffic about 5 p.m. Monday. It was hauled away a couple hours later.

Women from different movements, folk traditions and professional artists will get together to celebrate peace and communal harmony.

"Responding to the growing violence in the country and the building up tension around the September 24 judgement women get together to say that we want peace and communal harmony," said organizers in a release.

The program HumAman will present some of very talented women artists who have not performed in the capital- like the weavers from Tezpur, Assam and north eastern network who are bringing a dance performance as well as the products that they weave.

The performers include Parveen Sabrina Khan, a 16-year-old prodigy singer who sings sufi music from Rajasthan, tribal singers from Gujarat, performers from Chattisgarh, Himachal Pradesh, Haryana, a young percussionist group from Kerala, young and upcoming artists from Delhi like Namrita Pamnani and Sneha Chakradhar, flute player Sulochana Thapa, student poetesses from Springdales School, Dhaula Kuan- Alisha Dhyani, Vamika and Gauri Kant and young student singers from Lady Shriram College.

The program will start at 10:30 am and will run 9 pm, at Deputy Speaker Hall, Constitution Club, Rafi Marg, New Delhi.

Geo436.com blog: Centre not serious about Kashmir crisis: Hurriyat

Srinagar, September 21: A day after an all party delegation reached out to separatists in Kashmir, moderate faction of the Hurriyat Conference on Tuesday accused the Centre of not making a serious effort to address the Kashmir issue saying talks were not possible in a coercive atmosphere.
“The Indian government is making no serious attempt to address the (Kashmir) issue. They are not in any serious manner even acknowledging our suffering, but continue to use more and more force and structured repression to suppress our movement,” chairman of the faction Mirwaiz Umer Farooq said in a letter to embassies and high commissions of several countries in New Delhi.
While the Hurriyat Conference was for a meaningful dialogue for the resolution of Kashmir issue, talks cannot be held in a coercive atmosphere, the Mirwaiz said in his letter written to foreign diplomats in Delhi on the occasion of ‘world day for peace’.
“We believe that dialogue can be an alternative way for the resolution of the issue. However, dialogue can be possible only if conditions are created for it. Dialogue cannot happen under coercion with a gun pointed at us,” he said.
The Mirwaiz also alleged that the entire population of the Valley was being subjected to collective punishment for pursuing their just cause for the resolution of Kashmir issue.
“Due to extreme repressive measures being used by the state forces a humanitarian crisis is fast developing here and in many parts of Jammu, with unprecedented day and night curfew, acute shortage of medicine, milk, and even baby food, obstruction in the movement of ambulances, doctors, medical staff and shortage of blood and life saving drugs in hospitals,” he said in the letter.
He claimed that the “repressive measures” of the government were fuelling anger among the people of Kashmir and increasing the danger of the situation getting out of hand.
Seeking intervention of the international community, Mirwaiz urged foreign diplomats to use their good offices to influence the Centre to put an end to the use of “brute force” and address the issue through a political initiative in line with the aspirations and sacrifices of generations of Kashmiri people.
“When the world community is observing this day, for the 15 million people of Jammu and Kashmir peace continues to remain a distant dream,” he said.

Geo436.com blog: Pakistan won by 38 runs

Pakistan 265 for 7 (Hafeez 64, Swann 4-37) beat England 227 (Strauss 68, Gul 4-32) by 38 runs
Pakistan took the one-day series to a decider as they secured a 38-run victory at Lord’s with their bowling attack again showing its match-winning qualities, after England’s openers had seemingly put their on track to take the series with a 113-run stand. The spinners struck vital blows in the middle-order, then Umar Gul and Shoaib Akhtar became a handful under the floodlights. Earlier, a fearsome late assault from Abdul Razzaq, who hit 40 off his last 10 balls, gave Pakistan a powerful surge.
Under normal circumstances we would now be in for a thrilling end to the season at The Rose Bowl, but this match was played under a horrid atmosphere of legal threats from the England team following Ijaz Butt’s extraordinary outburst the day before. Andrew Strauss admitted his team were reluctant participants, but felt the best thing was to complete the series as planned although it took a meeting that stretched into the early hours to decide.
Whatever England’s mindset, once the game was on they wanted to be professional and will know a series-clinching victory was there for the taking. They’d been given the ideal platform by Strauss and Steve Davies – which had seemingly nullified Razzaq’s innings – but as the floodlights started to take effect on the late-September evening conditions became tougher. However, credit also has to go to Pakistan’s bowlers who came back superbly with the spinners proving a handful on a dry surface while Gul was again outstanding.
Strauss flew out of the blocks as Shoaib’s first three overs cost 30 and after the initial Powerplay England were 73 without loss with 10 boundaries; in the rest of the innings they only managed another 10. Strauss went to a run-a-ball fifty, his third in a row as he became the second leading run-scorer in ODIs this year, while Davies wasn’t far behind until he dragged Saeed Ajmal into his stumps. That wicket brought England to a shuddering halt as Strauss lost the strike and Jonathan Trott, who earlier in the day was involved in an altercation with Wahab Riaz in the nets, struggled to bed in.
The ECB played down the incident between Trott and Riaz, but it was a clear sign of how far the relationship between the two sides has fallen in recent weeks. Trott appeared uneasy in the middle before watching the ball roll back into his stumps from a defensive push against Shahid Afridi. Pakistan didn’t try to hide their pleasure at Trott’s departure.
They took control a short while later when Strauss fell to his favourite cut shot, picking out backward point perfectly off Shoaib and it left two new batsmen having to settle with the scoring-rate rising. Paul Collingwood, who missed the previous match with a virus, has struggled for most of the season and looked bereft of form before inside-edging Gul into his stumps as England slipped to 149 for 4.
Ian Bell, recalled to the side following his match-winning 107 in the CB40 final on this ground on Saturday, played himself in calmly but having used up 41 balls to reach 27 then drove Ajmal straight to cover. It was down to Eoin Morgan, but he couldn’t find anyone to stay with him as Michael Yardy chopped on and Tim Bresnan played all round Gul. England’s last chance went when Morgan skied a drive and Mohammad Yousuf, never the sharpest in the field, took a fine running catch at mid-off.
Pakistan’s innings had progressed in fits and starts, but was ended in grandstand style by Razzaq who plundered 10 boundaries in the last two overs from James Anderson and Bresnan. Splaying his front leg to drive through the off side during the final Powerplay the quicks couldn’t adjust amid the onslaught.
Afridi, playing his 300th ODI, had also supplied his own fireworks and played like a man wanting to make more than a cricketing point. He launched his fourth ball, the last one of Graeme Swann’s impressive four-wicket spell, into the second tier of the pavilion and the MCC member who tried to catch it finished with a bloodied face. The Pakistan physio came to his aid, and the member insisted on staying in his seat to watch the remainder of the action. Afridi reached 33 off 16 deliveries at the peak of his assault, but miscued a slower ball from Bresnan to long-on.
The star of England’s bowling display was Swann with a wonderful ten overs of offspin. Announced as one of the four candidates for ICC Cricketer of the Year – having been omitted from the original long list in a major blunder – he made his customary first-over breakthrough with a classical offspinner’s dismissal as Asad Shafiq was bowled through the gate when he tried to drive. Yet, even the normally jovial Swann couldn’t manage his usual expansive celebrations – a sure sign that England would rather not have been playing this match.
Swann added Yousuf, Mohammad Hafeez and Fawad Alam to his haul and Pakistan were fading, but they had power to come and Razzaq’s blows proved decisive. However this series, which has included some outstanding one-day cricket, will only be remembered for the wrong reasons. Whoever wins on Wednesday.

Geo436.com blog: NASA confirms possibility of sun rising from the West

The science of astronomy states that the speed of planet Mars has been decreasing in its course toward the eastern direction in the past few weeks to the level we notice the “waver” between the east and the west and on Wednesday the 30th of July the planet movement stopped going toward the eastern direction.
Then in the months of August and September…Mars changed its course in the opposite direction to the West- and that until the end of September which means the sun will rise now from the west on Mars!! And this weird phenomena of the opposite movement is called “Retrograde Motion” Most scientist state that all the planets will go through the same once at least and our planet Earth is one of them. Planet Earth will move in the opposite direction some day and the sun will rise from the west!!
This might occur soon and we are unaware! The rise of the sun from the west is mentioned in the hadith and this is the major sign of the day of judgement, most if not all, the minor signs have occurred. Wake up. Our beloved messenger Mohamed (Peace Be Upon Him) said: “One of the signs of the hour the sun will rise from the west, where no longer tauba (forgiveness) will be granted”
!!And the strange thing most of our Shariah scholars mentioned that the rise of the sun from the west occurs only once on that day the sun will rise from the west then again from the east and continues until Allah wishes and this is similar to what is happening to Mars it stops, then it changes its course of direction for a short period of time then returns to way once it was.
And Abdullah Bin Amro (R.A.) said: (I memorised from the messenger (SAW) a hadith I will never forget I heard the messenger of Allah (SAW) say: The first aya to come the rise of the sun from the west) [Ahmad]. And the messenger SAW “Allah places HIS hand at night to forgive his morning sinners, and places in the morning to forgive his night sinners until the sun rises from the west” [Muslim].
This piece of news is very important as it brings with it a great sign of warning and remembrance of the coming of a new WORLD – the world of he Hereafter When we show this hadith that was told 1400 years ago about this miracle..you will see InshaALLAH, a lot will revert to right path…And the Muslims if they see this phenomena happening in Mars who knows maybe it would bring them closer to our CREATOR. May Allah keep all of us in the right path and provide us with success in this world as well as in the hereafter.

Geo436.com blog: India News Two trains collide in Madhya Pradesh: 10 feared dead, many injured

At least 10 people are feared dead and many others are injured after the Gwalior Intercity Express was hit by a goods train at Badarwaas in Shivpuri, Madhya Pradesh. The number of dead could rise.

A rescue team has been sent to the spot, Rajkumar Pathak, District Magistrate of Shivpuri said. Pathak said four bodies had been recovered from the wreckage of the last three coaches of the passenger train. Three more bodies were being extricated using cutters. He said at least 18 people had been injured and had been shifted out for medical treatment.

The passenger train, from Indore to Gwalior, was reportedly stationary at the station when the goods train hit it from behind. Three coaches of the Intercity Express piled up on top of each other with the impact.

The accident happened at 5 am today. Visibility in the area is very low as it is raining heavily. Rescue operations have also been delayed as roads in the area are in poor condition and the nearest hospital is 55 km away.
Early reports said it appeared to be a case of negligence as the two trains were on the same track. An investigation will reveal whether there was a signal failure.

No top administrative officers have reached the spot yet. Badarwaas is a small station with very few resources for rescue operations but the people of the town have reacted fast, reaching the spot soon after the accident.

A passenger, Rajesh Mangal, called Awaz Apni in Gwalior to inform about the collision and said the situation was grim. He said local doctors had reached the spot.

The Gwalior Intercity was at the station when the goods train collided with it. I was in the train. Two coaches were badly damaged…It was too dark, rescue efforts were delayed. Local people helped,” Mangal said.

PTI adds: Relief trains from neighbouring Guna and Bina towns have been rushed to the spot. Senior Railway Board officials have also rushed to the site of the accident.
