Wikileaks LONDON: In a meeting Prime Minister Gilani on August 21, 2008 told US ambassador Anne W. Patterson that he don't care if they (drones) do it as long as they get the right people. The meeting was also attended by Interior Minister Rehman Malik.The US ambassador to Pakistan met with (now president) Asif Zardari, Prime Minister Yousuf Gilani and General Ashfaq Kayani. They discuss immunity for former president Pervez Musharraf; the upcoming election and US drone attacks on the tribal areas. Although publicly the officials oppose the attacks, the meetings show they back them in private.
In a message sent on Saturday, 23 August 2008 on the subject 'IMMUNITY FOR MUSHARRAF LIKELY AFTER ZARDARI'S ELECTION AS PRESIDENT' the diplomat wrote; 'Malik suggested we hold off alleged Predator attacks until after the Bajaur operation. The PM brushed aside Rehman's remarks and said "I don't care if they do it as long as they get the right people. We'll protest in the National Assembly and then ignore it."
