Mfarhanonline:Seesmic To Target Enterprise Users With $4 Million Investment From Salesforce

Fav Tag:

Mfarhanonline Social Media News: Social media app maker Seesmic has raised $4 million in new funding in a round led by Salesforce.com, a deal that the startup says will help it reach more enterprise users. Seesmic, which has now raised $16 million in total, began working with Salesforce.com last year, when it integrated Chatter — the CRM giant's internal social media tool — into Seesmic Desktop. Billed as a "Facebook for the Enterprise," Chatter competes with the likes of Yammer and Socialtext, but has the advantage of being sold into Salesforce.com's existing base of hundreds of thousands of business users. In a statement , Seesmic CEO Loic Le Meur said, “Salesforce.com has become a valued partner as we work together to bridge external and enterprise social communication with Chatter. These investments will enable us to reach more enterprise customers." The outspoken Le Meur defended his company's position last year in the midst of new competition from Twitter, which at the time had just started rolling out its own mobile apps that competed directly with third-party apps like Seesmic. While the company has continued to innovate — and moved itself away from reliance on Twitter by acquiring Ping.fm and integrating a variety of other social media platforms — it clearly has realized that its opportunity as a consumer app was limited by Twitter's continued development of native apps. With the investment from Salesforce, the company is clearly focused on its shift to enterprise . In the months ahead, we’ll see if the move is enough to finally take Seesmic's business to the next level.
