GEO 436 HUNZA: Ataabad lake water level is further up by 3.6 foot, brining the distance between spillway and landslide-hit lake down to 9 feet. The diameter of lake has reached 26 kilometers. The water inflow is recorded at 2500 cusec against the outflow, which stands at 200 cusec. On the other hand, hundreds of people stranded in Gilgit and Hunza could not be rescued on Friday as helicopter service that was to be used for airlifting them to save areas remained suspended amid visit of Prime Minister Syed Yousuf Raza Gilani in the area. The local dwellers staged protest against the halt of rescue efforts due to the VIP movement. Meanwhile, Gilgit Baltistan Chief Minister Mehdi Shah claimed relief goods have been dispatched to affected areas and people are fully satisfied. As the time goes by, people are hoping that rescue efforts will be intensified, but the situation is totally opposite. The affected and displaced people are not interested to see any other VIP, which leads to the suspension of rescue work.
