GEO 436 KARACHI: As the spate of target killings re-erupted in the city on Wednesday, the coalition parties in Sindh government moved to hold meetings to defuse the situation, meanwhile, all educational institutions will remain closed on Thursday, announced CM Sindh Qaim Ali Shah, Geo news reported. As the reports of target killings poured in from different areas, any agreement that had supposedly been reached between the coalition partners apparently became undone with the departure of President Asif Ali Zardari. Chief Minister Sindh Syed Qaim Ali Shah held separate meetings with Governor Sindh Dr. Ishratul Ebad Khan and Awami National Party (ANP) delegation led by its provincial president Shahi Syed. Sindh Home Minister Dr. Zulfiqar Mirza and CCPO Karachi Waseem Ahmed also attended the meeting. Soon after holding meeting with the ANP leaders the CM called on Dr. Ishratul Ebad at the Governor House. Expressing serious concern over the killings, they underlined the importance of making coordinated efforts by the coalition partners and initiating productive efforts from grassroots level. It was decided that the coordination committee comprising representatives of the coalition partners would meet on Thursday (today) and hoped that the matters would be resolved soon. Both the governor and the CM asked the officials concerned to take immediate and effective steps to control the situation. They also talked to ANP's Sindh chief Shahi Syed and other leaders of coalition partners to prevent the situation from further deterioration. They asked the elected legislators to play active role in their respective constituencies to improve the situation. They also urged the people to keep strict vigil on miscreants and maintain unity in their ranks. They asked the law enforcement agencies to ascertain the causes of lawlessness and identity the elements involved in it. They said that it was a matter of concern that criminal elements were playing havoc with the lives of innocent people to further their nefarious designs. They hoped that the coalition partners would foil such designs through their unity. During his meeting with ANP delegation at the CM House, Qaim Ali Shah took notice of the targeted killings during the last 24 hours, and asked the authorities concerned to take effective steps. He assured the ANP team that culprits involved in the killings would be arrested soon. He also stressed for increasing patrolling by police and Rangers. Shah said that some miscreants wanted to destabilize the law and order situation to further their nefarious designs, which would be jointly foiled by the coalition parties and peaceful citizens. The meeting participants stressed that all political parties should maintain discipline, respect each other and play their role for maintaining law and order in the city. On the occasion, CCPO Karachi Waseem Ahmed presented a report about the targeted killings. The ANP leader and Sindh Minister for Labour Amir Nawab said that a "congenial atmosphere" was created when the President visited the city and held meeting with the coalition partners. But, he added, it was a matter of grave concern that the perceived good atmosphere was sabotaged. He said that all the people should think about it as destabilization of Karachi would adversely affect the entire country, adding, "We are rendering sacrifices and demonstrating restraint, and the others should also demonstrate it". Former legislators of Jamaat-e-Islami expressed concern over resurfacing of targeted killings and alleged that two coalition partners of Sindh government were once again playing havoc with the lives of innocent people to destroy peace in the metropolis. In a statement, they said that the government did know who were involved in these killings but it was not taking action just to protect its rule. Meanwhile, Chief Minister Sindh, Syed Qaim Ali Shah on Wednesday night announced that all educational institutions in the city would remain closed on Thursday (today), according to the CM House spokesman. This decision was taken in wake of targeted killings in the metropolis, which claimed lives of over 20 people.
