GEO 436 MADRID: Rafael Nadal beat Roger Federer 6-4, 7-6 in the final of the Madrid Open. As the Spanish number two seed for the event, Nadal beat the top ranked player in the world in a tight match in front of a packed house of fans who were all cheering the Spaniard to victory. Both players then held out until the tiebreak, where Nadal was the stronger player to win the match 6-4, 7-5. In the women’’s final the French player Avarane Rezai, ranked 24 in the world, pulled off a shock win in 6-2, 7-5 against Venus Williams.
