GEO 436 ISLAMABAD: Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) Chief Mian Muhammad Nawaz Sharif Thursday urged China to enhance its investment in vital areas of Pakistan’’s economy, focusing on agriculture, power and energy sectors. He said this while exchanging views with Chinese Vice Premier Zhang Dejiang, who called on him here. Extending a warm welcome to the vice premiere and his high-powered delegation, Nawaz Sharif recalled that China always stood by Pakistan and extended all kind of assistance in the time of trial. The PML-N leader said strong, time-tested and all-weather linkages between the two friendly countries made their relationships an essential element in ensuring peace and stability in the region. Nawaz Sharif recalled his several visits to China, including the latest in January this year, which provided him opportunities of witnessing the remarkable progress China attained, especially during the past 30 years. The progress brought peace and prosperity to its people, shielding China from economic crisis currently engulfing theeconomies of the major powers. He also expressed full support to China on the issue of Taiwan and said he condemns any effort to disturb the peace in Tibet and Xinjiang. Punjab Chief Minister Shahbaz Sharif, who also attended the meeting along with Raja Zafarul Haq, Chaudhry Nisar Ali Khan and Ishaq Dar, highlighted the importance of Chinese investment in Pakistan’’s energy sector, especially when the country was currently facing power shortage. He also referred to the possibility of Chinese participation in power generation from coal as the country had huge deposits of this valuable source of fuel. Shahbaz Sharif also gave a proposal to the visiting dignitary for Chinese participation in construction of the sudden loops of the Lahore ring road. The Chinese vice premiere assured the chief minister that he would thoroughly examine the proposal and response at the earliest. He thanked Nawaz Sharif for his expressions of solidarity, extending vigorous and consistent support to China.
