Sonawane had a heated argument with the oil adulteration racketeers after which the goons spread kerosene on him and set him on fire, before escaping from the spot. Sonavne was lying on the spot, until a heavy contingent of police, led by some senior policemen rushed to the spot. The ghastly incident happened shortly before, this afternoon. The assailants are suspected to be established criminals with past records. Yashwant Sonawane has conducted raids in the petroleum black market flourishing in Maharashtra and had to pay for his honesty by sacrificing his life while raiding the oil depot.
