Geo 436 HONG KONG: Gold closed at 1,281.50-1,282.50 US dollars an ounce in Hong Kong on Friday, after breaking through the 1,280 barrier as traders snapped up the safe-haven asset. After opening the day at 1,274.00-1,275.00 US dollars an ounce, the precious metal finished up from Thursday”s close of 1,266.00-1,267.00 dollars. Gold has marked up a series of record highs this week after the European Union warned that fears of a resurgent eurozone debt crisis were likely to stunt the region”s economic growth prospects this year.
