Mfarhanonline:Blind Man Takes Googleâs Self-Driving Car for a Spin VIDEO

Mfarhanonline Social Media News: Google put a blind man in the driver’s seat — and he lived to tell the tale. It sounds crazy, but, it’s true. Steve Mahan got to take the company’s self-driving car for a test spin. Mahan lost 95% of his vision and doesn’t have a driver’s license. When he hopped in the driver seat, the first place he wanted to go to was … Taco Bell. A Google employee sat next to him with a computer on his lap, programming the route to each destination. The steering wheel turned automatically, and the vehicle stopped for red lights and stop signs. Radar and lasers check for cross-traffic and prevent the vehicle from collisions. “This is some of the best driving I have ever done,” Mahan says while sitting in the driver’s seat. The Google car effortlessly navigated the Taco Bell drive-thru. Mahan then ate a taco while the car figured out how to get to their next stop. “Where this would change my life is to give me the independence and the flexibility to go the places I both want to go and need to go,” Mahan said. One of Google's Self-Driving Cars Gets into an Accident UPDATE Google announced its plans to create a self-driving car back in 2010. The project’s goal: to make driving safer, more enjoyable and more efficient. Google posted the video on Google+ on Wednesday. “We organized this test as a technical experiment outside of our core research efforts,” read the post, “but we think it's also a promising look at what this kind of technology may one day deliver for society if rigorous technical and safety standards can be met.” The computer-led driving car is still being tested and designed, but Google has made major strides. The company reports driving more than 200,000 miles in the robot car. Mfarhanonline tested out the smart car last year! . Althou gh the self-driving car is impressive, Google says it’s still just a science project. Would you use a self-driving vehicle? Tell us in the comments. Image courtesy of Google .
