Mfarhanonline Social Media News: BARCELONA — Google Executive Chairman Eric Schmidt mentioned his company very few times Tuesday, as he shared his vision of the future of mobile and Internet technology. In a keynote at the Mobile World Congress , Schmidt focused on human rights as well as general areas of technology and how it’s shaping our future, hinting at various Google products as he went along. The keynote did start with a Google product, however — the Google Chrome for Android Ice Cream Sandwich. Demonstrated by Google’s Hugo Barra , the new Chrome preloads webpages you’re likely to open next, making the browsing experience faster. It also lets you easily swipe between tabs, select between a bunch of tabs or get rid of an opened tab you no longer need. The demonstration went smoothly – possibly because this year, the Wi-Fi was turned off for visitors so it wouldn’t interfere with the demo. The new Chrome really looked smooth and snappy. As for the rest of the keynote, Schmidt focused on helping the poor and those who have no way of getting online to connect with the Internet. Here are a few key takeaways: On the future of technology: In the future, you will be able to send a robot to a rock concert instead of you. By 2020, fiber networks will be implemented in every city. Smart cars will reduce traffic accidents, which are 99% due to human error. The web will be like electricity: always there. Handsets could be preloaded with medical diagnostic tools. On the future of Google and Android There will be an Android in every pocket. Google Search will become more personal and more accurate. On enabling poor countries to become connected The most important problem is that of Internet access itself, which is expensive in poor countries. Once you solve that, the people will solve the rest themselves. Some governments w! ill try to restrict access to technology, but they are going to fail. In the future, it will be easier for communities to organize themselves against oppressive regimes. Internet and technology are like water, they always find a way to get through. We will all become more equal, but in many ways our differences will persist. The weak will be strong, and those with nothing will have something. On various other issues Peer-to-peer money is illegal in many countries; Google considered it but thinks it still needs a better regulatory framework. Internet regulators try to regulate what’s happening now, instead of what’s about to happen. That allows the technology to get better. Anything that gets people more connected and more online is good — even Facebook . Everything that makes people excluded, is bad.
