Mfarhanonline Social Media News: The pioneers of the fashion community on Tumblr have been producing and republishing stylish content since the microblogging platform launched in 2007. Among the first to join was Sara Zucker , a former Glamour community manager who now works in social media. She was also one of the first to have the tagging feature as an editor, which she says has been around for about a year now. “Everybody who has the tag is very different as a blogger,” says Zucker. “There’s no algorithm for what gets picked and what doesn’t.” All of the promoted content on the fashion tag is hand-picked by the 27 editors who are currently managing it. There is an extra star button at the top left of the page, alongside the heart and reblog features. Each editor is allowed to promote up to ten posts daily to be featured. Zucker was an NYFW tag editor for two seasons in a row, however, this year, Tumblr has partnered with Milk Studios. As for the fashion tag as a whole, Zucker says the community is diverse. “In the fashion space, there’s a big divide between the bloggers who do original content — take original photos, and write their own copy — versus blogs that reblog and post inspirational photos, very scrapbook-like,” she adds. Tumblr’s ability to republish from others at such a high velocity has produced a whole new type of blogger who curates content. Although bloggers often don’t give credit to the original content creator, it often allows more casual bloggers to create visual boards for inspiration. Personally, Zucker tends to tag original conten! t, but s ays she mixes it up with various sub-categories of fashion, such as users who blog about jewelry, as well as stylists and designers. “I look for a unique voice,” Zucker explains on what makes good content. “It’s not just posting photos; it’s about what you say and creating an overall aesthetic to your blog. It’s especially important on the fashion tag because the industry is so visually stimulating.” Among the thousands of fashion posts published daily on Tumblr, we asked Zucker to give us five picks for the fashion tag. 1. Jourdan Dunn (Women, NY) “Craig Arend is a freelance photographer whose work has been featured in Vogue , WWD , and New York Magazine . He used to be based on Blogpost and recently made the switch to Tumblr; because of that (and because his photos are gorgeous), I like to promote his posts.” Click here to view this gallery.
