South Africa won the toss and chose to bowl in the second Twenty20 international against New Zealand on Sunday.
The South Africans made two changes to the lineup that lost the first match by six wickets at Wellington, naming Marchant de Lange and Wayne Parnell in place of Colin Ingram and Rusty Theron.
"I hope we can restrict them to a decent total and chase it down, simple as that," South Africa captain AB de Villiers said before the match.
"We had a few things to talk about after the first match. We ve reflected on that game and hopefully learned some lessons. One thing we know, it will take a full team effort to win it."
New Zealand, which is on a roll after winning a test, three one-dayers and two Twenty20s against Zimbabwe before beating South Africa convincingly on Friday, named an unchanged lineup for the match at Seddon Park.
Opener Martin Guptill, who led New Zealand to victory in Wellington with an unbeaten 78, is chasing his seventh half century in successive innings.
New Zealand is unbeaten in Twenty20 internationals in Hamilton.
"We probably would have liked to bowl but we re not too disappointed to bat first," New Zealand captain Brendon McCullum said. "It looks like a good surface and a fast outfield so there should be some runs scored."
