Mfarhanonline Social Media News: Are you ready to secure a copy of one of the most coveted games of 2012 more than a week before its worldwide release? A copy that has touched the upper atmosphere and will take a competition against some of the most devoted gamers to secure? Well, gear up for Thursday, because as Mfarhanonline reported Friday, Bioware’s Mass Effect 3 is launching its exclusive Space Edition into space. And we’ll tell you how you can score it. In partnership with Project Aether at the University of Houston and students of the High Altitude Weather Balloon Club at Texas A&M, Bioware and publisher Electronic Arts will launch six copies of Mass Effect 3 into the air using high-altitude weather balloons. The first package is set to take off Thursday at 7 a.m. PST at Golden Gate Park in in San Francisco and moving eastward, with launches in Las Vegas, New York, London, Paris and Berlin to follow. David Silverman, Bioware’s marketing director for Mass Effect 3 , says the contest seems like a natural match for the sci-fi/action series. “ Mass Effect 3 is the beginning, middle and end of an all-out galactic war to take Earth back from an ancient alien race known as the Reapers.” Silverman says. “In honor of Shepard's mission, we thought it would be fun to launch copies of the game into the upper atmosphere.” The games are encased in specifically designed payloads, including HD cameras and GPS monitors that will help track and secure the copies. This tech will also transmit location information to help gamers find the loot — although it’s not an exact science. “Depending on weather conditions, it could take anywhere from 2 to 3 hours to land back on the ground and the landing site could be anywhere from 50 to 300 miles of where they are launched from,” Silverman explains. So now t! o the ni tty-gritty: How the heck can you score a copy? Silverman says that the calendar of all of the launches will be posted to the game’s official website, www.masseffect.com , and everyone with a registered account can access the information. From there, gamers can track maps on the special Space Edition page and narrow down their closest balloon package. “People will be able to click on a specific location and track the balloon's progress in real time, so they know when to be when it lands,” Silverman explains. From there, it’s time to lace up your running shoes and get moving. There’s only a single copy in each of the payloads, so only the quickest will be able to pop in their game from outer space — slowpokes will have to settle for the game’s demo in the meantime.
